Many friends and acquaintances accuse me of being over-the-top when I insist on calling the Democrat Party the “Totalitarian Party.” They are certainly entitled to their opinion.

I wonder, however, what they make of this language of The Majority Leaders’ Amendment to current version of Obamacare?

Beginning on page 1,000 of the measure, Section 3403 reads in part:

“… it shall not be in order in the Senate or the House of Representatives to consider any bill, resolution, amendment or conference report that would repeal or otherwise change this subsection.”

This is how totalitarians rule. This is not how Americans govern themselves.

If this bill passes and is signed into law by The Messiah, he truly WILL live-up to his promise :

“So tonight, I return to speak to all of you about an issue that is central to that future — and that is the issue of health care…. I am not the first President to take up this cause, but I am determined to be the last.”

He will not have lived up to it by creating the best system America could create. He will have lived up to it by ramming down our throats legislation we do not want and are almost completely unable to alter.

THIS is TOTALITARIANSIM.

So - how does this work?

Normally a change to Senate Rules requires a 67-vote majority. This is a change to the rules, so logically means that the HC bill now requires 67 votes to pass the Senate, right?

Nope. Reid has decided that it is only a PROCEDURAL change, and so requires on 51 votes.

Here’s a bit of an exchange between Sen DeMint and the Senate Presiding Officer:

DEMINT: and so the language you see in this bill that specifically refers to a change in a rule is not a rule change, it’s a procedure change?

THE PRESIDING OFFICER: that is correct.

DEMINT: then I guess our rules mean nothing, do they, if they can re define them. Thank you. And I do yield back.

THE PRESIDING OFFICER: the senate stands adjourned until 7:00 a.m. tomorrow.

That’s right. When confronted with the facts, the Senate Democrats ran for cover. The Senate Democrats are ignoring the constitution, the law, and their own rules to pass Obamacare.

(Try to imagine for just an instant the response of the Democrats or the media had this been a Republican pushing legislation that disallowed modification by any future representative of We the People… You can’t imagine that? I can’t either…)

With a 67-vote supermajority required to do anything with regard to this portion of Obamacare, it truly will be untouchable, regardless of circumstances, regardless of the opinions of the citizens… I mean, of the subjects … regardless of anything at all, this bill will not be able to be touched by any future Congress.

Should the GOP take Congress in November? Too bad, done deal.

So - for those who think I am over the top? Your thoughts?

THIS is TYRANNY.

Note that the subsection at issue here, the untouchable portion of this bill, concerns the regulatory power of the Independent Medicare Advisory Board (IMAB) to “reduce the per capita rate of growth in Medicare spending.”

That is precisely the kind of open-ended grant of regulatory power that effectively establishes the IMAB as the ultimate arbiter of the cost, quality and quantity of health care to be made available to the American people. And Reid wants the decisions of this group of unelected, unaccountable federal bureaucrats to be untouchable for all time.

No wonder the majority leader tossed aside assurances that senators and the public would have at least 72 hours to study the text of the final Senate version of Obamacare before the critical vote on cloture. And no wonder Reid was so desperate to rush his amendment through the Senate, even scheduling the key tally on it at 1 a.m., while America slept.

True to form, Reid wanted to keep his Section 3403 poison pill secret for as long as possible, just as he negotiated his bribes for the votes of Senators Mary Landrieu of Louisiana, Ben Nelson of Nebraska and Bernie Sanders of Vermont behind closed doors.

The final Orwellian touch in this subversion of democratic procedure is found in the ruling of the Reid-controlled Senate Parliamentarian that the anti-repeal provision is not a change in Senate rules, but rather of Senate “procedures.” Why is that significant?

Because for 200 years, changes in the Senate’s standing rules have required approval by two-thirds of those voting, or 67 votes rather than the 60 Reid’s amendment received.

Reid has flouted two centuries of standing Senate rules to pass a measure in the dead of night that no senator has read, and part of which can never be changed. He is flouting 900 years of the Rule of Law.

If this is not tyranny, then what is?

DON’T SIT BY AND LET THIS HAPPEN IN THE DARK!!! FORWARD TO EVERYONE ON YOUR LIST!

Even that is fine as far as it goes.

But for a host, Obama, to attack a guest, SCOTUS, in a setting in which the guests are not allowed to respond… for the host to abuse his position to insult these guests - and to bring-on the mob-like response of every Dem in the chamber standing and jeering them — was just plain rude.

Skip the politics. Skip that the only way 99% of the Liberal agenda has been implemented has been through the Court as the voters routinely reject it. Skip that here is a far-left radical liberal very publicly attacking SCOTUS - the institution that has caused more of the Liberal agenda to be implemented than any other institution.

All Obama really did was demonstrate to the world how BADLY he was raised. That he never was taught common courtesy or even truly basic manners.

This self-procaimed “man of the world” lack even 5-yr-old’s grasp of common courtesy.

What a childish boor.

From Maxine the Cartoon Old Lady….

I bought a bird feeder. I hung It on my back porch and filled It with seed. What a beauty of a bird feeder it was, as I filled it lovingly with seed. Within a week we had hundreds of birds taking advantage of the continuous flow of free and easily accessible food.

But then the birds started building nests in the boards of the patio, above the table, and next to the barbecue. Then came the poop. It was everywhere: on the patio tile, the chairs, the table … Everywhere!

Then some of the birds turned mean. They would dive bomb me and try to peck me even though I had fed them out of my own pocket.

And others birds were boisterous and loud. They sat on the feeder and squawked and screamed at all hours of the day and night and demanded that I fill it when it got low on food.

After a while, I couldn’t even sit on my own back porch anymore. So I took down the bird feeder and in three days the birds were gone. I cleaned up their mess and took down the many nests they had built all over the patio.

Soon, the back yard was like it used to be …. Quiet, serene…. And no one demanding their rights to a free meal.

Now let’s see.

Our government gives out free food, subsidized housing, free medical care and free education, and allows anyone born here to be an automatic citizen.

Then the illegals came by the tens of thousands. Suddenly our taxes went up to pay for free services; small apartments are housing 5 families; you have to wait 6 hours to be seen by an emergency room doctor; your child’s second grade class is behind other schools because over half the class doesn’t speak English.

Corn Flakes now come in a bilingual box; I have to ’press one ‘ to hear my bank talk to me in English, and People waving flags other than ‘Old Glory’ are squawking and screaming in the streets, demanding more rights and free liberties.

Just my opinion, but maybe it’s time for the government to take down the bird feeder.

If you agree, pass it on; if not, just continue cleaning up the poop

Public sector unions have tanked Greece, Portugal, Italy, Ireland and Spain. The group has been given the ironic moniker: PIIIGS. California, NY and other deep-blue states also are allowing themselves to be destroyed by Public Sector unions and Deep-Blue policies.

DC is doing it to the remainder of America. The Dems, against unprecedented opposition, are RULING, not GOVERNING America, and they are absolutely intent on turning America over to the Public Sector.

Many ideas are out there about how to fix the PIIGS, in America and Europe. People pretend that the policies are OK, we just need to figure out how to pay for them..

The symptom is increased Public Sector. The solutions being discussed are higher taxes, changing monetary units and interest rates, allowing or disallowing inflation, etc.

The problem is that these ’solutions’ all are addressing the symptoms. Addressing the symptoms won’t solve the disease. Unless checked, the disease will be fatal to the West. The disease is anti-caplitalism.

Econ 101(A): Capitalism creates wealth. Socialism destroys wealth.

Capitalism requires two things: Trust, Capital.

America is the capital engine of the world, no other nation or group of nations comes close. We create the wealth, others spend it. Europe spends it on absurd social welfare policies for which they cannot pay, but that they get to choose because the American taxpayer foots the bill for their defense – the FIRST principle of government.

Europeans are parasites on the American taxpayer and the American market. They have chosen to be so since they last killed one another en-masse in WW2 (preceded by killing one another en masse in WW1, The Franco-Prussian wars, the Hundred Years’ War, etc., etc., back the Treaty of Westphalia in 1648; Europeans have NEVER stopped killing one another other than when sandwiched between the NATO – completely reliant on American force and inter-and intra-theater transport capability, and the Warsaw Pact (run by yet another European nation with a huge Asian population: the USSR). The next time Europeans want to kill each other they need to be allowed to do so. En Masse. En toto. Since The smart ones migrated to America, what, exactly, have Europeans given the world?

Nothing but war, disaster, death. Nothing.

Non-Europeans spend our wealth on butter or guns: Where do you think China gets the money being used to build its defenses? And of course, Australia and New Zealand spend it on beer, there being nothing of particular strategic importance in either location.

America once was the trust capital of the world, as well. We trusted our government, and the countries of various mutual defense pacts did, as well: NATO, CENTO, SEATO, etc. We no longer trust our government, and it has become painfully obvious that most of the world no longer trusts us, either. Ask the Czechs and the Poles, for starters, and then ask those trying to overturn a theocratic military dictatorship in Iran.

So – little capital, less trust is what America has become. “Little capital,” you may ask, “We have plenty. Our GDP is $14T. What’s the problem?”

The Dems have taken an enormous amount of capital out of the market. Trillions. Obama’s budget plan subtract another $9.4T over the next ten years. How do you get to a socialist economy without voting it into place? Take all the capital out of the market.

Farmers can’t borrow for seed because there’s no capital because Obama borrowed it all to give to inner-city dropouts and others who made what once were existentially poor choices. But the Dems want to help these poor misguided people. Great. Now the farmer can’t borrow money, because the interest rate is so high because no one trust America to pay-back the money so we have to pay increasing rates to get anyone to loan us money…. and so the farmer can’t get a crop in the ground. Then there’s no food.

Then the government has to take over the farms because those “greedy capitalists” aren’t doing their job: Feeding the people. The businessman can’t borrow against Accounts Receivable to pay Payroll or buy equipment. So the jobs he might have started – he can’t. All of those young people voting for Democrats?
They’re voting against the possibility of your being hired….EVER.

And bit by bit, industry by industry, the government takes over the economy – and the nation. Who votes for this? People too ignorant to understand the way the world works. Because it works just fine for them – for now – on their government payroll, or because they really are too ignorant to understand what’s happening – and are happy as long as they get their check.

For those supporting these “Progressive” policies (which are anything but progressive), ask yourselves these questions:

After the government takes over a sector of the economy, has the government – any government in any geography at any time in history – ever made that sector better? No. Ask Greece. Ask California.

As that sector gets progressively worse, who is left to bail it out? No one. Half the country is awaiting their check, and the number of producers has just dropped by whatever portion was in the sector just taken-over by the government… and all of THOSE have just added to the side awaiting their check.

Who creates the wealth for the rest of the world? No one. Once Americans stop creating wealth, no one else can pick-up the slack. Look around.

Obama and the Democrats are KILLING Western Civilization. Now you may be so ignorant that you think this is a good thing. It is not.

What has Western Civilization created? The market, wealth, medicine, the scientific principle. All technological progress since the wheel. The Industrial Revolution. The Computer. The Internal and the External combustion engine. electronic communications. Education, printing, books, machines, labor-saving systems and processes that have extended man’s life and knowledge orders of magnitude further than any civilization before.

What has Western Civilization ended? Slavery. Killing, imprisoning, exiling, enslaving based on race, creed, religion, ethnicity, gender. Child labor.

What has Western Civ protected? The meek, the injured, those who cannot do for themselves (which is different from those who WILL not do for themselves)

What else has Western Civ created? Freedom. Individual liberty. Self-government. Exploration – of the planet and, for a time, the stars. (You may have noticed that the Dems are destroying the manned space program. Why dream of the future when we can spend all our time and money putting band-aids on the past?)

For those supporting Democrats, you need to understand that you are supporting the destruction of the greatest civilization in the history of the known universe. You are destroying jobs for those who come after us. You are destroying freedom, liberty , the rule of law. But of course you don’t HAVE children. You have no “Hostages to the future,” so you just don’t care - as long as you get your check, and as long as the young man or woman who dropped out of school has an equal outcome with those of us who busted our hump.

And the result of your policies will be the same as the last time this happened: A thousand years of the Dark Ages. When a civilization collapses - another will take its place. What do you think is happening in Europe and Canada? Islam – a pre-Reformation, pre-Enlightenment, Inquisition-level quasi-religion that in reality is a totalitarian ideology has over-run Europe.

Every European country is in a demographic death-spiral from which no nation – EVER – has recovered. And in every European country Islam is the driving cultural force. And the driving demographic force.

Women living in bags. Girls being killed for meeting a boy. Girls refused an education. Boys being raised to treat women as doormats. Women being raised to believe that strapping-on a suicide belt to their child is a wonderful thing.

This is not a game. You “Progressives” are destroying everything you pretend to hold dear. There are NO civil rights in Islam. No separation of church and state. No individual liberty. No self-governance. The destruction you wreak will last for centuries.

And all it takes to stop this is to stop taking money out of the market, to tell Wash DC that, no, it’s OUR money and NOT yours. To understand that we can allocate money and resources better than any government ever has proven itself capable of.

If America continues to let Democrats feed the union beast, give welfare to dropouts (an intelligent society helps those who help themselves; getting a HS diploma – at the least, preferably a Comm Coll AA – ought to be the MINIMUM requirement for welfare; at least TRY to better yourself before taking money from MY kids’ futures) and squander the labor of hard-working men and women across the most successful economy in world history – this country will die. And, with it, the West.

And then no one will protect the world from the tyrants. And we will revert to the rule of the strongest, rather than the rule of the fairest, which has been a historical anomaly since WW2.

If you like your fellow-man and wish him well, you CANNOT vote for policies that destroy capitalism. For no other system raises us above the brutes.

It is as simple as that, like it or not. Vote Democrat and destroy the future.

268 U.S. 5

CERTIORARI TO THE CIRCUIT COURT OF APPEALS
FOR THE NINTH CIRCUIT
Syllabus

1. Any provision of an act of Congress ostensibly enacted under power granted by the Constitution, not naturally and reasonably adapted to the effective exercise of such power but solely to the achievement of something plainly within the power reserved to the states, is invalid and cannot be enforced. P. 268 U. S. 17.

2. Direct control of medical practice in the states is obviously beyond the power of Congress. P. 268 U. S. 18.

3. Incidental regulation of such practice by Congress through a taxing act, like the Narcotic Law, cannot extend to matters plainly inappropriate and unnecessary to reasonable enforcement of a revenue measure. P. 268 U. S. 18.

Now that Obama & the Totalitarians are insisting on Reconciliation (”an up or down vote“) and a totalitarian takeover of 1/6th of the economy - and the doubtless inclusion of ALL medical and healthcare workers into the SEIU or AFSCME (so their taxpayer-funded salaries can be dunned for dues to ensure a permanent Totalitarian majority - what this has been about all along - it’s never been about healthcare - had it been, Congress and the President would’ve been included - and they are NOT), at least we know that, if SCOTUS stays with the Constitution and precedent, this will be overturned.

And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is its natural manure.”

Sally C. Pipes

Thursday, February 25, 2010

Danny Williams, the premier of the Canadian province of Newfoundland, traveled to the United States earlier this month to undergo heart valve surgery at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami. With his trip, Williams joined a long list of Canadians who have decided that they prefer American medicine to their own country’s government-run health system when their lives are on the line.

But just as American hospitals are becoming popular vacation destinations for about 40,000 Canadians a year, California’s Senate is pressing ahead with its effort to make the state’s health care system more like the one in the Great White North. The Senate recently approved a bill sponsored by Mark Leno, D-San Francisco, that would install a government-run, single-payer health system in the Golden State. The Assembly will soon consider the measure.

Lawmakers should take Williams’ case to heart. Canada’s experience shows that government health care leads to waiting lists, rationing and lower quality of care.

For instance, Canada suffers from a scarcity of physicians. Over the last decade, about 11 percent of doctors trained in Canadian medical schools have come to the United States to practice. Physicians’ salaries are set at artificially low levels by provincial authorities: The average Canadian doctor makes just 42 percent of what an American physician does.

Canadian patients also face wait times for medical procedures. Nearly 700,000 Canadians are on a waiting list for surgery or other treatments.

A Canadian patient has to wait roughly four months for the average surgical or other therapeutic treatment. Wait times were similar a decade ago - even though the government has substantially increased health care spending since then.

Canadians also lack access to advanced medical technology. Compared to other developed countries, Canada ranks 14th out of 25 nations surveyed by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development in access to MRIs; 19th of 26 for CT scanners; and eighth out of 21 for mammograms.

Canadian women are nearly a quarter less likely to have had a mammogram than are American women.

Despite these visible shortcomings, many American lawmakers want to emulate Canada’s system. President Obama’s new blueprint for reform would greatly expand Medicaid by adding 15 million Americans to the rolls. Medicaid patients already have trouble finding doctors who will treat them because of low government reimbursements. Nearly a third of physicians nationwide won’t accept new Medicaid patients, according to the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission. Expanding the program will only make matters worse.

Congress would also like to beef up government-run “comparative effectiveness research,” whereby officials evaluate competing drugs to determine which ones are purportedly most effective for the average patient.

Canada employs these reviews ostensibly to make sure that public money is spent wisely. But such reviews just diminish patients’ access to the latest medicines. Publicly insured Canadians have access to half as many drugs as their countrymen with private insurance - and must wait a year longer to gain access to the few new drugs that become available.

America’s health care system merits reform - but not of the government-heavy sort favored by the president and congressional Democrats. Expanding government control over the health care system will diminish outcomes for American patients - as well as the occasional Canadian visitor.

Sally C. Pipes, a former Canadian, is president and CEO of the Pacific Research Institute.
