Remind Me: WHY Iraq?

Watching Baghdad fall I am intrigued by those still justifying the Bush invasion. Mostly at this point by arguing Saddam had to go. Really? Why?

Saddam was a brutal thug. He was NOT a religious nut. He kept Al Qaeda types away from power mostly by killing them. So? That’s what we’ve been doing far less effectively for over a decade. It’s what the USSR tried for a decade. They, too, failed. A modern nation will NEVER defeat tribal barbarians with weapons but without willpower. Pre-moderns have nothing BUT willpower, and it is willpower that wins wars.

We pretend we can win using combat but without war – they are NOT THE SAME. We NEVER have won using combat without war. Not in Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan. NEVER.

SO STOP WASTING LIVES TRYING. IT DOES NOT WORK.

Was Iraq the Western Liberal Democracy American leaders wanted it to be? Nope. So? It took about two millennia, a Reformation, Enlightenment & Industrial Revolution to create the West. The muslim world missed out on and rejected all of that. So how stupid was it, how much psychological projection was required to think we could mash 2,000 years of the trials and errors of history onto them in a few years & they’d happily accept it?

Moronically Stupid. Imbecilicly stupid. Ginormously stupid.

Yet we tried anyway. Even after Kuwait, a stupid little monarchy that, as soon as we left (having spent lives & billions) began executing apostates.

You know how people still say we ought to have dropped a demonstration nuke instead of annihilating Hiroshima?

Well… wasn’t Kuwait demonstration enough that these barbarians didn’t give a flying… leap for modernity?

So we went BACK?!?

Were Iraqis better off before Saddam? You bet. Not our problem. Are they better off after Saddam? Nope. Worse. Far worse.

Why did everyone – D and R – want to get Saddam? Cuz he was a thug. So what? Why did everyone want to get Ghaddafi? Cuz he was a thug. So what? Is either Iraq or Libya better off now that we’ve whacked their tyrants? Nope. The Shah was a tyrant, too. So Mr Stupid (Carter) helped enable his overthrow. Iran better… or worse? Easy: Khomeini’s return set the stage for all that has followed.

As long as Americans refuse to learn about a country or culture they have NO BUSINESS interfering in it.

By now most seem to grasp that this insanely barbaric pre-modern culture works for them. Who are they killing? Those who collaborated with their enemy. You know how utterly stupid one must be to not get that, or that everyone does the same? Ask the French collaborators after WW2.

We worry about their women & children. Ya know what? Their women & children are all-in. AGAINST US.

Here’s the deal: we cannot afford to keep sticking our prissy noses in the affairs of others. Really. The rest of the world is, since 1945, WORSE OFF for our having done so.

The Greatest Generation did a lot of great things. But they were epic fail on raising their kids, a bunch of spoiled rotten locusts who destroy everything they touch and lack the seriousness to address the world as their parents so successfully did.

Millennials: Your grandparents created a great world and a great America. Your parents are destroying it. You will have to bring back at least America. Be smart enough never to bite off more than you are willing to chew.

About Alex Scipio

About Alex Scipio: Alex moved out of the People's Republic of California to the Free State of Arizona, finally tiring of the lack of the Bill of Rights, the overgrown idiocracy, and the catering to non-Americans & welfare recipients. He still wonders how America got from Truman, Eisenhower, and Daniel Patrick Moynihan to the Liberal and Conservative extremes so badly managing America today. And, yes, islam DOES need to be annihilated. And doing what he can to get folks away from the extremes of political life.

One Response to Remind Me: WHY Iraq?

  1. Robin says:

I asked a friend who did several tours (Marine) in Falujah what his speciality was to which he replied to me “winning hearts and minds”. We discussed what going on now in Iraq, he said it was all to be expected: some of the people he met liked us, some hated us but most were so war torn they didn’t care anymore.

If our goal was not to win the war but rather the hearts and minds we had no business starting the fight.
