Some of you are aware that I recently wrote and published a novel, China Rising.
China Rising was awarded an Honorable Mention @ the Hollywood Book Festival 2012.
It’s a geopolitical thriller in which China makes a serious move (think Tianenmen Square on steroids…) against the most serious opposition to China’s American markets & investments (Islamist terrorism), Russia sells land she cannot populate, exploit or defend (Siberia) to China – who can, and who uses American debt holdings + long-term royalties for the purchase – that Russia turns-around and uses to hire 1M northern europeans to work their remaining enormous resources (Russia has HUGE demographic problems, BTW)… IF they abandon the euro.
China finds a very ingenious way to fix her own demographic problem (China will be down about 40M women by 2020), and China hires American companies to move to China to help with advanced resource exploitation – and to build tens of thousands of kilometers of roads and railroads, as well as moves to direct investment in the US rather than continuing purchases of treasuries, which she’s decided are just giving their money to American politicians to waste…
Oh, yeah, and the new American president finds a way to use this all to the advantage of America in fixing her own problems with narco terror on the Mexican border… AND lower the overall superpower tensions in the world – plausibly.
It’s very current, has various interesting subplots and, basically, solves the world’s problems in a quick, interesting 272 pages. It’s a good summer read for the beach, an airplane trip, etc.
Those who have read it so far have liked it. They’ve referred to it as a “page turner,” and one, a middle school principal, recently said she had to “rush home to get back to it every day.” It’s gotten some good reviews on Amazon (Kindle page, linked above).
I’m doing a reading at Vroman’s Bookstore in Pasadena on the afternoon of 26 August, at 4:00 pm. Vroman’s, an institution in Pasadena, is one of the oldest and largest independent bokstores in the country, is VERY supportive of local authors, holding a “Local Author” event the final Sunday of each month.
Many of you are out of town, I know. But as it’s summer, I didn’t want to skip the possibility that you might be in the area that day. If you are local or out of town but will be in the Los Angeles area, and are looking for something to do for an hour on the 26th (in a GREAT bookstore in Pasadena), please consider joining me (and two other authors – they usually do this as three authors in an afternoon), please consider joining me for an overview, short reading and signing of China Rising. (And if you’re out of town, please feel free to go here for an overview (including a linked 2-min video) and, if you might like it, it’s available on Kindle, Nook (Barnes & Noble featured China Rising in their June online merchandising specials), iBooks, Googlebooks or in paperback – feel free to order it!)
