Lots of ink and pixels are being spilled protesting that the German government should (or not) save the euro and, perhaps, the entire EU by (over)spending (or not) their taxpayers’ earnings.
The issue for Europe (and America, frankly) is that leaders continue to lead their people in resistance to natural selection. Natural selection is just as relevant in the nation-state world as in the animal kingdom of which we are a part; the difference is only that nation-states CHOOSE to succeed (or not).
It is past obvious that the PIIGS (Portugal, Italy, Ireland, Greece, Spain) and perhaps France and Belgium have chosen NOT to succeed, eg, have CHOSEN to FAIL.
Had the Brits simply allowed Germany to win WW1 by staying-out of the conflict – i.e. allowing natural selection of the strongest nation adapting the best to the industrial future to absorb nations using resources less-efficiently – look at how different the 20th Century would have been, a century in which first Britain and then the US spent trillions of dollars and millions of lives to stop natural selection.
It is arguable that a strong Germany on Russia’s Western border in 1917 would have precluded the rise of the USSR. No force-famine in Ukraine (30MM dead), no purges (5MM dead), no WW2 ETO (40MM dead). Perhaps no PRC (80MM dead – Cultural Revolution & Great Leap Forward), no Korea (1MM?), no Vietnam (2MM?), no Cambodian killing fields (2MM?), etc, etc., through Cuba, Angola, Nicaragua and other USSR-supported national disasters.
Perhaps by accepting natural selection in 1914, the pre-Industrial Age Ottoman Empire would have extinguished itself differently and/or more slowly, leaving the Information Age world without the pre-Industrial Age islamist problem faced today. Perhaps this would have precluded the mini-wars in Kuwait, Iraq, Afghanistan and the scourge of a soon-to-be-nuclear Iran, as well as the utterly-failed state of Pakistan and the Iranian theocracy.
Perhaps accepting natural selection in 1914 would have precluded what now seems to be a soon-to-fail Egypt as they willingly place themselves under the utterly failed ideology of political islam as it tries yet again to come to grips with the modern world in some way – any way – other than accepting it.
Pan-islamists today are CHOOSING to fail and MUST be left to their own decisions and devices as they do so; no more wars pretending that populations with over 50% illiteracy (over 75% among women) can be Western-style Liberal democracies, which is pure nonsense. How they govern themselves is THEIR business until and unless they attack us, and then they must just be destroyed so as not to harm yet again the productive Information-Age citizens and their progress, or the economies and jobs they create.
Perhaps accepting natural selection in 1914 would have resulted in no rise of Marxian theory, giving all of us a more-educated populace (no oppression/victimology courses, nonsense or professors of same) across the entire West today. (Which could mean also none of this Global Warming nonsense and the idiotic idea of wealth redistribution from Information Age countries with the Rule of Law to Industrial and Stone Age countries who reject the Rule of Law, which – natch – is WHY they are Industrial and Stone Age countries and POOR.)
The point is this: If Germany is the only nation whose people have chosen to remain strong enough to survive – which seems to be the case amongst those begging for money from Germany’s taxpayers to fund their profligacy – why should Germany not be in charge? If we had let Germany be in charge of Europe back in the day, alot of problems would have been avoided…
And if Germany’s socialism and demographics ultimately cause their demise, too, well, it’s their choice, and not a choice for which I or my progeny should pay via bailouts or defense dollars or, ultimately, lives (if Europe goes to war again – which is all they ever do when left-alone).
Nation states need to get out of the business of stopping natural selection. If any nation won’t build and sustain the economic and military capability needed to assure their independence, what possible reason is there that others should do so for them, or spend lives & treasure keeping-free a nation not willing to keep itself free? None.
If nations don’t choose to be free, why should others sacrifice to make that choice for them?
Darwin was right. And governments need to accept that.
