It occurs to me that passing legislation to increase (re-start?) domestic oil drilling ought not be that difficult, and we can do it using the Democrat playbook to stop their anti-energy insanity.
When the Left wants to get in the way of a foreign trade deal to support their union members, Congress simply passes legislation or the Administration has written-in to the deal the requirement for American labor protections in said foreign country.
So how about this: The House ought to pass legislation requiring a specific standard for environmental protection within any nation from whom we buy oil. Said standard ought to be whatever are the current laws in the USA.
I’d like to see the Dems in the Senate vote against that. Or Obama veto it. Or the Sierra Club lobby against it.
When the only nations that can meet those standards are the US, Canada, the UK and Norway, we’ll see LOTS more oil drilled domestically and stop sending $352 Billion annually to the Arabs (2009 figure).
The GOP can go on-record as wanting – demanding – to protect the environment and reduce oil prices and stop funding terrorists and supporting job growth here in the USA in an economic/energy hat trick, and the Dems can go ahead and try to lobby against environmental protection in the Third World and FOR sending hundreds of billions of dollars – and thousands of jobs – annually to countries that are anti-American at best, and destroyers of the environment as part of their normal operation.
What do you think?
