I’m now sort of ambivalent about this doc release. I have trouble seeing transparency as an always-bad thing in international relations… if we think the current administration is nuts domestically (Nov 2), then how does it generally (not specifically) hurt for us to know what they are up to internationally, as well? Yes, there are issues of trust from other governments to us if this stuff gets out there… but those governments already know this stuff… AND they know they engage in the same kind of name-calling and disparagement of our guys that we now are shown to of their[…]

The Coming Imperialism.. a Good Thing?

One wonders if the next step on the global stage is a return to Great Power imperialism.

No real doubt exists among intelligent and educated people that the post-war (WW1 & 2) spin-offs of so many “nations” from their Great Power colonial masters, on the false assumption that these “nations” and peoples were capable of self-government, has resulted only in worse situations for their peoples, economic and social regression, educational disasters, agrarian catastrophes, uncontrolled violence, and just generally far worse lives than under their colonial masters.

Obama in the Real World This Thanksgiving

So Russia & China are rejecting the American dollar as the denominating currency for trade. DPRK is shelling ROK. China is ignoring the little man in the White House, waiting to see what he’ll do in a serious conflict. Germany and the rest of the G20 are telling Obama to take his ignorant Keynsian economics and shove them up his ass. MoveOn.org is pissed Obama hasn’t yet overturned our Constitution. And SCOTUS is conferring on Obama’s eligibility.

And that’s just this morning.

How’s that whole “repair our relations with the world” and get out of debt hopey-changey thingie working out for everyone[…]

Clunker Math… and our Healthcare

The  person who calculated this bit of information went to high school in  Pittsburgh , Pa.

He is now & has been a  professor at The University of West Virginia in Morgantown, West Virginia  for the last thirty some years.

Apparently no one has  thought to look at the clunker program in such  depth.

• A clunker that travels 12,000 miles a year at 15  mpg uses 800 gallons of gas a year.
• A vehicle that travels 12,000 miles a year at 25  mpg uses 480 gallons a year.

Recently Dr Moshe Adler, who teaches economics @ Columbia University and is the author of “Economics for the Rest of Us: Debunking the Science That Makes Life,” published an Op-Ed in the LA Times in which he demanded we tax the rich. A Mid-Term Comment on California

As many have noticed, CA voters did something basically insane on November 3rd. They elected to the CA  governorship to FIX California’s bankruptcy…the man most responsible FOR California’s bankruptcy.

CA is bankrupt because of Public Sector unions. These unions were illegal until Jerry Brown signed the Dills Act in 1977 legalizing public sector unions and collective bargaining.

But…. and this is where CA voters really did something interesting….

In addition to voting in the guy who bankrupted the state (and returning to office arguably the dumbest woman in the Senate), we ALSO passed a number of propositions that will make it next-to impossible[…]

Taxes and the Left …. What a DEAL!

I’ve written before about profits and taxes. Here I discussed the amount of taxes paid by the company the Left seems to hate more than all others combined: Exxon. Exxon, of course, pays tens of billions of dollars in taxes every year. The left loves the taxes but hates the company - and the market in which the company works. Tough.

Now comes word on another corporate behemoth and the taxes they pay… ooops! Sorry! The taxes they WON’T pay!

Government Motors, previously named “General Motors”, won’t pay federal taxes on up to $50 BILLION in profit. Why? Part of the Obamadeal…. A cool[…]

Thoughts on the Off-shoring of Jobs

Rather than comment on the mid-terms, which already are being over-commented, here are a few thoughts on the off-shoring of jobs in America. It’s an issue of interest to Left and Right, but I think one not being discussed in the correct context.

Frankly, the answer on off-shoring of jobs may well be that we continue to educate a citizenry for, and then employ them in 19th- and 20th-Century manufacturing and industrial jobs that our technology and economy have outgrown. In not educating for tomorrow, which we most certainly do not, we accept that we must import thousands of H1-B folks[…]

‘Are we fighting a war on terror or aren’t we? Was it or was it not started by Islamic people who brought it to our shores in July, 2002, and in  New York Sept 11, 2001 and have continually threatened to do so since?

Were people from all over the world, not brutally murdered that day in London , and in downtown Manhattan ,  and in a field in Pennsylvania ?

Did nearly three thousand men, women and children die a horrible, burning or crushing death that day, or didn’t they?

And I’m supposed to care that a few Taliban were claiming to[…]
