I find interesting the concept that perhaps the passage of this unconstitutional bill (a violation of enumerated powers, the 9th and 10th Amendments and the Takings clause, and, if using Deem and Pass, of Art 1, Sec 7) could be the catalyst for a return to Constitutional government.
There is no way America will take this piece of garbage lying down.
Unlike Lefty Baby Boomers who came of political age by running away to Canada in the 1960s rather than stand on principle and go to jail (as did Cassius Clay/ Muhammad Ali at the cost of his title; and which would have drastically shortened the war – no, the Feds would NOT have locked-up 25,000 Boomers – they would’ve left Vietnam tens of thousands of deaths sooner), my guess is that hundreds of thousands of adult Americans ( e.g. not liberals) will be more than willing to go to jail on principle to support and defend the Takings clause, the Constitution and the free market by refusing utterly to buy something the government illegally tells us we must buy. Not gonna happen.
Passage of this may well become the straw that breaks the liberal’s back. Hundreds of millions of Americans DO NOT WANT this bill and our rulers DO NOT CARE.
My guess is that passage of this will result in an overthrow – likely peaceful – of the Baby Boomer rulers with which we have chosen to saddle ourselves for the past 40 years, and a return to sanity. Remember – the Debt was $400B in 1972 when Boomers first began holding office… in 40 years they have spent 30 times what America spent to settle a continent, win all our wars, land on the moon, invent the modern world of manufacturing, communication, computing, prescription drugs, etc.
And for that 30-fold increase in debt? Boomers have accomplished.. nothing.
Even the internet was an outgrowth of DARPANet, designed in the 1960s by Boomers’ parents. All Boomers have accomplished is to impoverish a great nation to pay for failed and unsustainable social welfare programs for people who refuse to take care of themselves.
I can’t see SCOTUS going along with Deem and Pass, nor can I see them going along with violation of Takings, nor can I see them overturning their 1925 precedent that healthcare is “obviously” beyond the power of Congress. If the Left doesn’t like that – too bad. FDR didn’t like it when SCOTUS reined-in him, either.
I also can’t see the GOP establishment – including 15 Senators of which just voted AGAINST an earmark moratorium – suddenly become trusted by the voters.
DeMint has just founded a money fund – NOT affiliated with the GOP – to elect real conservatives. The Tea Partiers may well gravitate in that direction, though someone needs to give Reagan Democrats (much of the Tea Party, which is about fiscal sanity not social issues) a place to land, as well. I think a whole lot of GOP AND Demo pols will be replaced in November. It isn’t as if it wasn’t the entire crew that got us into this fiscal mess in the first place, is it?
And those illiberal “Progressive” whiners and anti-American lefties? Well, they can always move to Europe and live off the dime of the American taxpayers there as most Europeans do. They obviously dislike being held to adult responsibilities here, so they may as well move to an irresponsible continent. Heck, the only way to support liberal parasites (yeah, I know that’s redundant), is to have free-market capitalism here to be able to pay the allowances on which those children rely, not being willing to mature and take care of themselves, right?
Seriously, what’s the difference between a “Progressive” and a 7-yr-old? Only the calendar.
