Here’s a good question for the Obamafia:
The WTO was engineered to ensure that companies whose governments subsidized them could not unfairly compete against privately-owned companies (basically so that European companies could not beat American private enterprise through government subsidies).
Now that the US Administration owns a significant part of Chrysler — is that ownership a violation of the WTO accords?
Of course it is.
The government owns 80% of the company (and unconstitutionally took a majority stake to give to its favorite special interest – the UAW… your tax dollars at work subsidizing a failed union model to buy votes… nope, no corruption here.. move along folks…). The government sets the policy on the type of cars it can make, has lent it billions of dollars to keep it solvent. The government has slashed the marketing and advertising budgets of Chrysler, which it has zero constitutional authority to do. (Same as with the firing of GM’s CEO – zero constitutional authority.)
Any car emanating from Chrysler factories at this point owes its entire existence to the Obamafia’s willingness to waste tax dollars to subsidize a failed private enterprise, right? Same with GM.
So – the government sets design, manufacturing, advertising and marketing policy, owns a large portion of the company, subsidizes it with billions in loans.
Of COURSE it’s a violation of the WTO..
Hey – but that’s a rule and this is a government of men, not of law…
Too bad – we once had a free country.
