Many on the Right – the blogosphere, to be sure, but now also Rush and other major media sources – are theorizing that Sen. Biden’s continuing gaffes (here, here, here , here for starters) are a conscious strategy to allow Biden to step down, and Hillary to step-up.
While this may be true, it seems unlikely.
Could Biden, DC’s Mr. Ego himself, really willingly participate in a strategy designed to portray him as working above his own pay grade? Or is he just not aware of it?
The latter, of course, would seem to be at-odds with the constant drumbeat that he is qualified to move into the VP slot, whereas Gov. Palin is not.
If Biden is unaware of this strategy (if it exists), what does that say about Delaware voters who continue to vote for him decade after decade?
If he is aware of it, how does he participate in his own demise? Has he been promised SecState? How much credibility would he have in that position having exhibited to the world his inability not to say the wrong thing at the wong time?
One of the main avenues of legitimate attack on Sen. Obama is on his complete lack of decision-making experience – absolutely no executive position – ever. Were he to admit that the most public, most important decision of his career was a huge mistake, Obama himself legitimizes that entire line of attack.
Remember his response in a TV morning show to the question, does he ever have doubts? “Never.”
Really? (Can Obama even spell hubris?)
How does Obama then admit a mistake? He won’t even admit his criticism of the Surge was a mistake – and that was only a campaign talking point, not an executive decision.
Or, is there a Karl Rove-entity at loose in the Obama camp? Making decisions like: ‘I know, let’s dump Biden to show Barry is tough… and we’ll get Hillary back to peel-off the PUMAs going for McCain’? and not apprising Sen. Obama?
Michelle?
