Obama as Scrooge? No Presents for his Children?
I’m sorry. Maybe it’s just me.
Perhaps this behavior is something to be admired and I just am missing out.
Obama and his wife Michelle earn annually over $500,000. Cool and good for them.
On the campaign trail he talks about being green – but increasingly he is talking about the economy, about being thrifty.
All fine and good.
But – get this, from the Times (London) Aug 7, 2008:
“But recently Mr Obama has been talking more about thrift than trees. Instead of showing off his recycling skills, he explains that his children don’t receive Christmas or birthday presents.”
The Telegraph (UK) writes that the Obamas give their kids Christmas presents (though in PC-Britain it is phrased: “Santa Claus is still permitted to deliver seasonal gifts…”).
Evidently Obama can’t keep this story straight, either. Or maybe he’s just lying about both?
What constituency is he vying for in this example of egregious selfishness? What kinds of parents don’t give their children Birthday and Christmas presents?
With over $500K of income, it sure isn’t poverty that explains this.
It may sound a bit trite – but is America really ready for a man who doesn’t even give presents to his own kids?
Are his children of so little value to him while they are young – for such a short time?
Of how much value are his fellow citizens to him if he doesn’t even value his own kids – other than the power he can gain from their votes?
Is America ready for Mr. Scrooge for President? Really?
