Unsustainable San Francisco

A couple of years ago I shared a stage with Gavin Newsome, Mayor of San Francisco, and had to listen to him bloviate on his “World’s Most Sustainable City.”

Sorry – but not in this dimension.

He bought computers for everyone, putting out of work those who sell computers, traditionally (at the time) young urban professionals just starting out to marry, raise a family, etc. These jobs pay on the order of $75-100K depending on the level of one’s success. So – he destroyed, what? 30-50 of those jobs? If you count Tech Support, Admin to support the sales teams, etc. Given the economic multiplier in America, the downstream impact is on the order of 100+ jobs. May not seem many in a city as large as San Francisco, but the family and demographic impact is large.

Then he bought broadband communications for everyone, again giving away high-tech jobs. Of course his rationale was how far behind Europe America is on broadband penetration.

Perfect – pick the least-sustainable, crashing-before-your-very-eyes culture of the failed demi-Continent as an example of the way forward.

As always, the Left picks a totally failed policy and implements it for the future.

Sustainable?

And those young professionals now logically would move elsewhere to a city that actually wants young employees – and their families, taking along with them any children they might have had. As young families leave, schools close.

Sustainable?

And turning the bus fleet into a fleet of CNG buses – who paid for that? Even SF couldn’t come up with the money; but what they came up with they did by raising already-high taxes, driving away many more young professionals and young workers – and their families. The rest are your tax dollars via the Federa government.

Sustainable?

Then he closed off an old industrial park to convert it (using more tax dollars) to a “green” industrial park, using more expensive energy to run it than otherwise would have been the case. Where did he get that money? More taxes, soaking more of the public’s money to sustain his ego.

Sustainable?

At the end of the day, this guy had killed jobs, driven away young families, raised taxes and destroyed wealth and a new generation of citizens in his once-proud, now increasingly decaying and aging City.

Far from the World’s Most Sustainable City, Newsome created one of the world’s least-sustainable cities: No families, no jobs, no schools, no future.

Recently the SF City Council announced that they will be spending (yet more) tax dollars on advertising in multiple languages the “sanctuary” nature of their city – where not one single City official will obey the Rule of Law – in which Federal Law trumps State Law – by seeking to report people breaking the law, residing in SF in violation of the Kennedy 1976 Immigration Law.

Sustainable?

Of course not – but, really, who cares anymore? SF is the domestic Europe, often compared as closest to a European cosmopolitan city as any in America. And, like Europe, SF now is a shell of what it once was, taken over by ideologues and the ill-educated with no grasp whatsoever on reality. Old adolescents whining still about Daddy not giving them what they want, all the while beating up on Daddy for all the perceived wrongs inflicted upon them.

In other words – the Left.

Oh, well, it was fun to visit when I was a kid.

About Alex Scipio

About Alex Scipio: Alex moved out of the People's Republic of California to the Free State of Arizona, finally tiring of the lack of the Bill of Rights, the overgrown idiocracy, and the catering to non-Americans & welfare recipients. He still wonders how America got from Truman, Eisenhower, and Daniel Patrick Moynihan to the Liberal and Conservative extremes so badly managing America today. And, yes, islam DOES need to be annihilated. And doing what he can to get folks away from the extremes of political life.
