Party of the Working Class?

Friday, May 30th, 2008 under Domestic, Politics

I keep trying to understand why the Democrats see themselves as the party of the “working” man and woman.

True, FDR did a heckuva job putting Social Security in place and then managing us into WW2 (which needed to be fought – not the argument here) which actually got us out of the Great Depression.

But since then? I can’t for the life of me figure out what the Party holds for working people.

Do Democrats help keep up the wages of low- and mid-range skilled  workers?  No. Wages are kept down by the same same open borders that Democrats viscerally support.

Do Democrats[…]

Teacher Unions and the Destruction of American Education

Friday, May 30th, 2008 under Domestic, Education

Have you noticed the link between the takeover of the teaching profession by unions and the growth of idiocy as a major market force in America?  You should have.

The Day After Tomorrow is being shown in High Schools (like my son’s) to students studying government and geography.

Far and Away is shown as a primer to immigration.

Entire schools dismissed early monthly so the teachers can “learn” more – and inflict more damage with more fads on kids who thought they were getting an education.

Here’s my fav: My kids’ elementary school recently got back into the “California Distinguished Schools” recognition. (Given that CA ranks[…]

Threat to Freedom

Thursday, May 29th, 2008 under Climate, Domestic

“The largest threat to freedom, democracy, the market economy and prosperity, is no longer socialism. It is, instead, the ambitious, arrogant, unscrupulous ideology of environmentalism.”

- Czech President Vaclav Klaus

California Job Growth is in Major Trouble

Thursday, May 29th, 2008 under Domestic, Taxes & Economy

We Californians have become accustomed to a broad economic climate, one not dependent on any particular industry for our economic health. Across this economic base, however, the jobs with the fastest wage and salary employment growth, the fastest-growing occupations, and the occupations with the largest job growth, already have left California. There is no reason to expect them back. The report by the Bureau of Labor Statistics on job growth 2000 – 2010 (Economic and Employment Projections, 2000 – 2010),  is – or should be – disturbing reading for all Californians.

Within Industries with the fastest wage and salary employment growth,[…]

We Must Require Declarations of War

Thursday, May 29th, 2008 under Foreign Policy and International, War and Terrorism

The last time America declared War was December 8, 1945. We won that one, as you may recall. (For Baby Boomers and their children and grandchildren, this was called “World War 2.”)

Since then Truman (D) put us in Korea without a declaration, committing American men and equipment to a “limited war” under the auspices of the United Nations. Did the war need to be fought? Probably, and with the UN authorization, one can make the case it was a legitimate use of US forces.

Result? Containment of the Soviet Union and China, then still allies of one another. And basically status[…]

Democrats and the GOP on abortion: The opposite of their demands.

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008 under Abortion, Domestic

Why are the Democrats against overturning Roe? Why is the GOP for it?

If Roe were overturned abortion law would revert to the states. There are no women of child-bearing age in America who have ever not had access to legal abortion. To think state voters would vote in majority numbers against abortion is nonsensical. Overturning Roe also would remove the foundation of the cultural divide in the country.

Is abortion always a bad thing for thinking adults? Really?

From the Roe decision to the 2004 election, it has been estimated that 43,000,000 abortions took place. Net result? Fewer liberal voters.

Since abortion defines[…]

American Europeanization

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008 under Domestic, Politics

Once one is past the idea of “Change,” what is driving Democrats in 2008? What is the future they demand?

For eight years we have been told that we must become “more like” Europeans with their welfare, healthcare and geopolitical views.

Since the 1980s American has outpaced European job creation by over 20:1. America has outpaced wealth creation by similar amounts.

Immigrants to America, legal and illegal, come to work, pay taxes and raise families.

Illegal immigrants to Europe come to blow it up and establish Sharia law.

Jobs are not being created in Europe; economies across the failed demi-Continent are stagnant or declining. Youths[…]

The Role of Great Powers

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008 under Foreign Policy and International, War and Terrorism

For a Great Power to remain great it must be willing to do what is right, to act in its own behalf, to challenge - and remove - those who would do it harm, regardless of the opinions of others.

When those who would do harm to that power mean also to tear down the institutions of liberty and freedom, of equality and human rights, of civilization itself to replace that for which millions have died for thousands of years, with a culture keeping women behind veils, locked in burning schools, that practices slavery and “honor” killings, the Great Powers must[…]

Is California anti-Family Farm?

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008 under Domestic, Taxes & Economy

California politicians in their infinite liberal wisdom have just banned hand weeding on California’s non-“organic” farms – the vast majority. Agriculture is one of California’s top industries, supporting over one million jobs and contributing about $28 billion to the economy.

Those crops to which technology has not yet been able to provide automated weeding, including lettuce, carrots, celery and strawberries, no longer may be weeded by hand. I guess we want to ensure the increase of wealth in those countries and states that provide the same produce we provide currently, but will not be able to provide competitively after this rule[…]

Global Climate

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008 under Climate, Domestic

“Gore’s circumstantial arguments are so weak that they are pathetic. It is simply incredible that they, and his film, are commanding public attention.”

Professor Bob Carter
Marine Geophysical Laboratory
James Cook University, Australia

“The most recent survey of climate scientists, following the same methodology as a published study from 1996, found that while there had been a move toward acceptance of anthropogenic global warming, only 9.4% of respondents “strongly agree” that climate change is mostly the result of anthropogenic sources. A similar proportion “strongly disagree.” Furthermore, only 22.8% of respondents “strongly agree” that the IPCC reports accurately reflect a consensus within climate science.”

Professor Dennis[…]
