My kids found this cool show on Discovery – “2057.” They get a charge out of wondering why we can’t have all that stuff now. (They are 10 and 12.)
So I watched it with them this morning. Fun show. Cool ideas. Interesting technologies.
But if you watch an entire episode, the technology is more than overbalanced by the ideology:
A) We’ll be out of oil in 50 years (Fact: More proven reserves exist every decade; more oil is under Montana than Iraq)
B) Burning methane ice (from the ocean floor) will add to global warming (Fact: The earth began cooling in 1998, 2007-8 was the coldest winter on record; there is no warming)
C) Advances in energy research will lead immediately to war with China – no talks, no ideas even of sharing, just immediate Executive and Military involvement on both sides and – war (Fact: No one goes from scientific discussions to war.)
I don’t have a problem with ideology when presented as such – or even when it’s thinly disguised as the network news – by now all thinking people understand that the network news and network television and the MSM generally are populated so close to 100% by liberal ideologues that one can’t differentiate their “reporting” from advocacy.
But Discovery and Science and similar channels purport to show cool ways of dealing with our planet and our future. And 2057 decidedly is misrepresenting itself to viewers – many quite young – as dealing with the facts that will be present.
Now you may be of a mind to believe snake oil sold by a guy who flunked out of Divinity School. You may even be running around your neighborhood screeching against those bad religious people; this certainly is your right.
But to listen to someone who went to prayer school, flunked out of it (how does one do that?), reject the facts of the current climate discussion to listen to the list of 2,500 “scientists” paraded by Gore & Co is just silly. And since you consider yourself informed at this point, I’m sure you already are aware that Gore’s list included one (1) actual Climate Scientist. It included a couple of gynecologists, two hotel managers and some landscape architects, but only one Climate Scientist – but since you’re well-informed on the subject, of course you know this already, right?
The Left always yammers on about “experts.” If you can find someone more expert on climatology than the head of that department @ MIT, please let me know. FYI – he doesn’t believe this nonsense, either.
It’s nice to pretend that someday we will get science shows that teach real science – not the junk-of-the-moment, currently the nonsense about climate.
But for now evidently it is more important to the Left to propagandize the young than to educate them.
Of course those of you with kids in public school already know that.
