American warfighting technology is second-to-none. So, why politicians demanding that America surrender?
One reads that America can’t be beaten – we have too many cool weapons with technology that bad guys can’t match. We even have a TV show about Future Weapons technology.
Weapons don’t win wars. Willpower wins wars.
Absent the will to win no weapons system will cause an opponent to lie down and die, or drop his gun, go home and become a consumer with the respect for what we in the West successfully have fought for centuries, and which one assumes we still desire: Peace and freedom.
Recently a combat pilot in Iraq described the misuse of American airpower in support of ground troops, advocating a simple, no-cost, immediately-implementable adjustment in aircraft deployment that would increase combat effectiveness.
We could be using airpower as designed, saving the lives of those who want a better life in Iraq, and getting closer to ending this war by killing those killing the hopeful.
Or we can do things via the centralization of command and depressing of individual initiative that we once taught our future military leaders would be the downfall of the Soviets.
Guess which we are choosing?
One wonders how the Pentagon demands time to “get the job done,” but when presented with a commonsensical change to proven more-effective tactics, refuses to discuss it.
Is this a war or a jobs program for chair-bound Generals?
We are losing in Iraq for the same reason we lost in Vietnam: The warfighters are not allowed to win.
Some politicians call for a “political solution,” demonstrating their lack of understanding that war is a political event. Armies are used to contest war, but war is political – first, last and always.
Generals, consumed with interservice rivalry, refuse to use assets effectively if doing so goes against doctrine.
Politicians, ignorant that precluding fighting necessarily precludes winning, now demand surrender – because we haven’t won.
Politicians are calling for surrender because it is easier to pretend surrender will not cause long-term negative ramifications for America than it is to make the decisions necessary to win and protect America and free peoples world-wide.
Our current Baby Boomer “leadership” in the Pentagon, the White House and Congress, doesn’t understand this. Boomers are ignorant of history, philosophy and the fact that things don’t happen magically; people actually must make decisions, decisions have consequences, change results from decisions.
The voters of America must begin to understand the blight across all facets of our lives that is the Baby Boomer generation.
Uneducated they are unable to see the world as it is. Historically ignorant they are unable to learn from wrong decisions in history or to understand the ramifications of the lack of decisions. Thinking that technology is an answer – to warfighting, poverty, or education, they wait for inanimate technology, all by itself, to deliver: everything.
Baby Boomers, that largest of generations, those who have seen more change than any generation in history refuse to admit of change. Whether it is the weather, stone-age people in New Guinea (who must be left alone to their diseases and child mortality for the ecotourist trade), killing an existential enemy, or fixing Social Security, Boomers can’t handle change.
Baby Boomers are unable to understand that nothing is constant, not gas prices, not the workplace, not the weather, not the world.
Boomer “leadership” will defeat technological tools every time, just as it is leaving our children uneducated and our military men and women dying for a cause these same Boomers only pretend to fight for.
As Boomers get closer to retirement and leaving the stage, elections will only get shriller and more idiotic. Our country and society, riven by the idiotic whining and screaming of Baby Boomers since they came of age in the 1960s, will only be less able to deal with the complex problems of the world.
On the Left Boomers will have failed in remaking America in the image of the failed demi-continent of Europe that gave us Stalinism, Communism, Fascism and Socialism – but not one advance in the past Century or more; a continent declining in population, a continent unwilling to work towards its own future.
On the Right Boomers will have failed in restricting the freedom of human beings to be themselves and make their own choices.
The sooner we begin ignoring them the better for us all. Certainly the better for the hopeful of any nationality, creed, color or religion in Iraq.
